Arsenal could demand a significant fee
Zubimendi joined Arsenal from Real Sociedad in July 2025 after the Gunners triggered his release clause. The deal was worth €65 million, with the Spain international signing a long-term contract. The 27-year-old defensive midfielder quickly became an important part of Mikel Arteta's side, making 57 appearances across all competitions in the 2025/26 season, scoring six goals and registering three assists.
His Premier League campaign was particularly consistent. Zubimendi played in all 38 league matches, starting 34, while recording five goals and one assist. His performances also came after a summer in which Arsenal had strengthened their midfield further, potentially creating a situation where the club could consider a major offer for the former Real Sociedad player.
Real Madrid return to a familiar target
Real Madrid's renewed interest comes after the club previously considered Zubimendi before his move to Arsenal. The midfielder's ability to operate as a deep-lying playmaker and his experience with Spain make him an attractive option as Madrid assess their midfield options.
