Chelsea have confirmed that no official bid arrived for Enzo Fernández before the club's 5pm UK time deadline on Friday. The Blues had made a £120 million verbal exit figure available to the midfielder's representatives at the end of May, but that option is now off the table. Manchester City had been the main club linked with a move, although no formal proposal was submitted.
Manchester City fail to make their move
City's interest was closely linked to uncertainty around Rodri, with Barcelona pushing to sign the Spanish midfielder. However, Manchester City have now indicated they will not meet Chelsea's £120m valuation for Fernández. Manager Enzo Maresca, who previously worked with the Argentine at Chelsea, also suggested before the Community Shield that a deal was unlikely to happen on Friday.
The situation is a significant one for Chelsea, as Fernández remains under contract through 2031 and continues to be a central part of their midfield. The 25-year-old Argentina international joined from Benfica in January 2023 for a British-record fee at the time and has since established himself as one of the club's most important players.
Fernández coming off his best Chelsea season
Fernández enjoyed a productive 2025/26 campaign, making 54 appearances in all competitions, scoring 15 goals and providing seven assists, according to Chelsea's official season review. He was the club's second-highest scorer behind João Pedro and also led the squad for total appearances.
With the £120m exit terms withdrawn and no official bid received, Fernández is now expected to remain at Chelsea for the 2026/27 season. The transfer window remains open, but any future approach would have to be considered under different conditions after Friday's deadline passed.
