Toluca are closing in on the signing of Uruguayan striker Federico Viñas, with the Liga MX club negotiating a permanent transfer to bring the forward back to Mexican football.
The deal between Toluca and León is at an advanced stage, with Viñas reportedly set to become one of the club’s major attacking reinforcements for the upcoming season. According to reports, negotiations are focused on completing the final details of the transfer, with the player already open to the move.
Viñas set for Liga MX return after European spell
The 28-year-old striker is currently owned by León and recently spent time in Europe with Real Oviedo. Viñas previously made his name in Liga MX with Club América, where he scored 13 goals in 95 league appearances before joining León in 2023.
At León, the Uruguay international enjoyed his best attacking season in Mexico, scoring 16 goals during the 2023-24 campaign and establishing himself as one of the league’s most reliable centre-forwards.
Toluca move forward with blockbuster attacking addition
Toluca view Viñas as a key addition to strengthen their attack and have been working with León to complete a permanent agreement. Reports indicate that the transfer is close to being finalized, although official confirmation is still pending.
The Uruguayan forward brings experience at both club and international level, having earned appearances for Uruguay’s senior national team. His physical presence, finishing ability and Liga MX experience make him a significant signing for Toluca’s ambitions.
