Mourinho gets his reinforcements
The six arrivals represent a significant change in the squad Mourinho inherited, adding experience, defensive depth and attacking options ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. Bernardo Silva arrived from Manchester City on a two-year contract, while Konaté joined after his Liverpool contract expired.
Cucurella completed his move from Chelsea on a six-year deal through June 2032, while Dumfries left Inter Milan after five seasons and signed with Madrid until June 2030. The Dutch defender was officially announced on July 5.
The biggest investment was made in Yan Diomande. The 19-year-old Ivory Coast winger joined from RB Leipzig after a breakthrough Bundesliga season in which he scored 13 goals in 36 appearances, according to ge. The deal was reported at around €100 million before subsequent reports put the final package even higher.

New numbers underline the squad changes
The first indications of the new shirt numbers showed Cucurella in No. 2, Konaté in No. 4, Bernardo Silva in No. 19 and Dumfries in No. 20, after footage from inside the Bernabéu dressing room revealed the shirts. Those numbers were initially described as provisional rather than officially confirmed by the club.
Espí gives Mourinho another traditional centre-forward option after his move from Levante. The 21-year-old Spain youth international had made 66 appearances and scored 20 goals for Levante across three seasons, while his 2025/26 campaign earned him recognition as La Liga’s best Under-23 player.
With the six newcomers now integrated into Mourinho’s group, Real Madrid’s summer recruitment has addressed several different areas rather than relying on one marquee addition. Diomande brings explosive attacking potential, Silva adds elite experience and versatility, while Cucurella, Konaté and Dumfries strengthen the defence and Espí provides a different profile at centre-forward.
