Aston Villa are preparing a £30 million offer for Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal as Unai Emery looks to strengthen his squad before the transfer window closes. The Premier League club are expected to test Barcelona's resolve after previous offers in the region of £25 million were rejected, with the Catalan giants continuing to consider the Spain Under-21 international untouchable.

Emery makes Bernal his top target
Emery has made Bernal his number one midfield target after the teenager enjoyed a breakthrough campaign under Hansi Flick. Several European clubs, including Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Atlético Madrid, have also tracked the 19-year-old, but Barcelona have repeatedly insisted they have no intention of selling one of the club's most promising academy graduates.
Barcelona remain reluctant to negotiate
Bernal featured in 33 matches across all competitions last season, scoring five goals as Barcelona lifted the La Liga title. The defensive midfielder, who is under contract until 2029, has become a key part of Flick's long-term plans after returning from a serious knee injury that interrupted his early development.
Villa are expected to submit their £30 million proposal in the coming days, but Barcelona's position has not changed. Unless the Spanish champions soften their stance, Aston Villa could face a difficult negotiation despite Emery's determination to bring the highly-rated youngster to Villa Park before the window closes.
