Chelsea are pushing ahead with negotiations for Crystal Palace centre-back Maxence Lacroix, with the French defender keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have made signing a new centre-back one of their priorities this summer, with talks ongoing between the club, Palace and Lacroix’s representatives. According to reports, the Blues have identified the 26-year-old defender as their first-choice defensive target and are working to reach an agreement.
Lacroix keen on Chelsea move as negotiations continue
Lacroix joined Crystal Palace from VfL Wolfsburg in 2024 and quickly became an important part of Oliver Glasner’s squad. The France international has impressed with his physical presence, pace and ability to defend in one-on-one situations, making him attractive to Chelsea’s recruitment team.
Crystal Palace are understood to value the centre-back at around £55m, with some reports suggesting the Eagles could demand close to £60m before approving a transfer. Chelsea are continuing discussions with all parties as they look to secure a deal.
Chelsea look to strengthen defence under Xabi Alonso
The move for Lacroix comes as Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso looks to reshape his squad ahead of the new season. The Blues want more defensive stability and view the French defender as a player capable of competing immediately for a starting role.
Lacroix’s contract at Crystal Palace runs until 2029, meaning the Eagles are in a strong negotiating position. However, the defender is reportedly attracted by Chelsea’s project and is open to completing a transfer to Stamford Bridge.
