Bayer Leverkusen seal €30m Miguel Gutiérrez transfer as Grimaldo replacement arrives

Bayer Leverkusen have reached a full agreement to sign Miguel Gutiérrez, with the Spanish left-back set to complete his medical early next week

Bayer Leverkusen have completed the signing of Miguel Gutiérrez after reaching a full agreement with Napoli for a deal worth €30 million, including add-ons. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Bundesliga club received the final green light on Sunday after waiting for the last details to be resolved. The 25-year-old left-back is now expected to undergo his medical on Monday or Tuesday before signing a contract that will keep him at Leverkusen until June 2031.

Leverkusen move quickly after Grimaldo exit

Head coach Carles Martínez identified Gutiérrez as the ideal replacement for Alejandro Grimaldo, whose departure left a major gap on the left side of the defense. Leverkusen acted decisively to secure the Spaniard, beating out other interested clubs and finalizing the transfer once Napoli approved the final structure of the agreement. The €30 million package includes performance-related bonuses and represents one of Leverkusen's biggest investments of the summer.

Gutiérrez arrives after solid campaign in Italy

Gutiérrez impressed during the 2025/26 season with Napoli, making 28 appearances across all competitions while contributing one goal and one assist. Known for his attacking runs, accurate crossing and composure in possession, the Spanish defender is expected to fit seamlessly into Leverkusen's high-intensity style. At 25, he arrives as an established top-flight full-back and one of the key additions to the German club's squad ahead of the new campaign.
