Manchester City midfielder Rodri remains open to returning to Spain one day, with Real Madrid regarded as his dream destination. However, despite the player's admiration for Los Blancos, club president Florentino Pérez has consistently ruled out any negotiations for the Spain international during the current transfer window. According to reports, Real Madrid have no plans to enter talks for the 29-year-old this summer.
Real Madrid not expected to make a move
Rodri has long been linked with a switch to the Santiago Bernabéu following his outstanding performances for Manchester City and Spain. The defensive midfielder, who joined City from Atlético Madrid in 2019 for around €70 million, is viewed as one of the best players in his position.
Despite the speculation, Real Madrid have maintained the same stance throughout the summer. Florentino Pérez has not authorized negotiations, meaning the Spanish giants are not expected to pursue a transfer regardless of the player's interest in making the move.
Manchester City remain confident over new deal
While Real Madrid are staying on the sidelines, Manchester City have been working to secure Rodri's long-term future. The Premier League champions presented the midfielder with a new contract proposal in April and remain optimistic that an agreement can eventually be reached.
Rodri's current contract runs until June 2027, giving City a strong position in any discussions over his future. Unless Real Madrid change their strategy, the Spain international is expected to continue at the Etihad Stadium while considering the club's renewal offer.
