The Japanese forward has sealed his long-awaited move to the Premier League after leaving Celtic
Daizen Maeda has officially completed his transfer from Celtic to Ipswich Town, ending a hugely successful spell in Scotland. The 28-year-old Japan international joins the newly promoted Premier League side in a deal worth £10 million, signing a three-year contract after making it clear that playing in England's top flight was his career ambition.

Ipswich land one of Celtic's biggest stars
Ipswich moved quickly to secure Maeda after reaching an agreement with Celtic earlier this week. The versatile forward leaves Glasgow after four and a half years, during which he won 10 major trophies, including five Scottish Premiership titles, three Scottish Cups and two League Cups. According to Sky Sports, the deal has now been completed, with Ipswich adding valuable experience and pace to their attack ahead of the new Premier League season.
Although Maeda was not as prolific as in the previous campaign, he still made a decisive impact during the 2025/26 season. He scored 17 goals in all competitions and finished the campaign in outstanding form, netting nine goals in his final seven matches to help Celtic secure a domestic league and cup double. Across his Celtic career, he registered 79 goals in 212 appearances.
Premier League challenge awaits
Maeda's relentless work rate, versatility and pressing ability made him a fan favourite at Celtic Park, and Ipswich believe those qualities will translate well to the Premier League. The Japan international can play on either wing or through the middle, giving manager Gary O'Neil multiple attacking options.
With the transfer now official, Maeda begins a new chapter in England after achieving everything possible in Scottish football. Ipswich will hope their new signing can bring the same energy and decisive performances that made him one of Celtic's most influential players in recent seasons.
